Sean Matus

I am a first year PhD student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign working within the HydroMet Group under advisement of Prof. Francina Dominguez. My research interests are centered around the hydrologic impacts of extreme weather events with focuses on land-atmosphere interactions and the communication of hydrologic forecasts. My current research involves studying the importance of the land surface on modulating the Great Plains low-level jet, as well as utilizing ensemble prediction systems (EPSs) with two-way communication channels to improve the public perception of hydrologic alerts.

Before attending UIUC, I completed my B.S. in Environmental Engineering at SUNY ESF. In 2018, I held a summer research appointment through CUAHSI at the National Water Center investigating the implementation of a heterogeneous hydraulic routing scheme in the National Water Model.
